Phoenix egg r’us
New X-Men #150 (Morrison/Jimenez) had an epilogue set a year or so into the future, in which a bunch of astronauts found a Phoenix Egg on the Moon and said they’d better tell the X-Men.
If it’s *that* Phoenix Egg, presumably it went to the X-Men’s landline at the Xavier School. At the time, the X-Men were all out of the office due to a crossover (Messiah Complex), and at the end of that particular crossover the school blew up.
I can only assume that the message remained on the servers of their telephone company only to be found by Professor X when he had to wade through the paperwork hell of getting all the phones disconnected, whereupon he telepathically “convinced” S.W.O.R.D. or Project Starcore or whoever to lend him the Egg, and he stuck it in a secure location somewhere.
There was a final page of Charles Xavier’s will, which just read, “And to my dearest pupil, Scott: Did I mention that I’ve got a God Battery in the garage of my Adirondacks place? Yeah, maybe check your own damn voicemail next time. Jerk.”
Or it could be from Phoenix Eggs ‘R’ Us, but, y’know, I like my theory better.
